The project is a three-bedroom contemporary residence with a loft designed to address the prototypical issues of a still re-building New Orleans.
This design of a typical residence in the rebuilding areas is an opportunity to explore how the unique environmental and site constraints of building in New Orleans can be successfully drive a contemporary response yet maintain contextual respect. The Owner’s brief was to design a sustainable house using an insulated concrete form (ICF) structure, utilize solar power generation and maximize views and natural light on a narrow lot. The resulting design utilizes many of the strategies typical of New Orleans, such as covered porches, a strong street presence, the blending of interior and exterior living spaces, elevated living areas and high ceilings.
